Venture Beyond GAP Year

Are you ready to take a leap of faith?

Heatree has launched an exciting new GAP Year for 2022, based at our outdoor activity centre on Dartmoor. This is a unique opportunity to train in the outdoors and share your Christian faith, by venturing beyond what a typical GAP year can offer and learning skills that will help make a positive difference in impacting and shaping young lives.

Take time out to explore your relationship with God and grow your faith, serve in a Christian charity and see God’s work in action, begin a lifelong journey to inspire others.

This 12 month programme is in three parts:

Part 1: Learn what it means to live as a Christian: begin by exploring your relationship with God, learning to live with others and being part of a Christian community through volunteering in all areas of the centre.

Part 2: Deepen your understanding of the Bible: through our Christian Leadership programme of study volunteers will explore and develop their relationship with God alongside like-minded individuals; learn about Christian values and leadership and how to be a Christian role model.

Part 3: Learn how to serve God through practical service and Christian ministry: develop your confidence to share the Gospel in impactful and inspiring ways.

Why Venture Beyond?

As part of the Outdoor Education team, during your Venture Beyond GAP Year you will benefit from practical and valuable experience and gain nationally recognised qualifications. You will also assist in other areas of the centre, serving meals and helping in the kitchens, housekeeping, groundskeeping, as well as maintenance tasks and projects across the site. Alongside this, volunteers will participate in our Christian Leadership programme. At Heatree we recognise faith as an integral part of life and there are also many things happening within local churches for volunteers to become a part of. Living on-site with fellow volunteers, food, accommodation and training will be provided, alongside equipment and uniform.

Other benefits include:

  • In-house training provided by experienced staff and qualified teachers
  • Opportunities to gain qualifications in climbing, paddlesports, hill walking leadership and other outdoor activities
  • First Aid qualification
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification
  • Level 1 Safeguarding Certificate
  • Transferable, employable skills through practical experience
  • Up to three outdoor expeditions to explore faith in the outdoors, including a Welcome Expedition at the beginning of your GAP year
  • Opportunity to serve in a Christian charity

Who can apply?

This GAP Year is aimed at Christians with a desire to grow in their faith. Applicants must be aged 18 or over.

What does it cost?

Although there is no upfront cost to take part in Venture Beyond, (we provide you with accommodation, food, training, utilities, expeditions, equipment and uniform), we ask for a fundraising target of £1500 to help towards the cost of your GAP year. We will encourage and support each candidate to get their friends, family and local church involved and we can help you set up a fundraising page to help raise funds through donations, and where you can share and report on what you’re doing throughout your time here.
