Dave

CEO & Centre Manager

Leading Heatree Activity Centre is a true privilege. I have long held a passion to see young people’s lives transformed through the unique experiences they can gain in the outdoors. That’s at the core of what we do here. My work background is in marketing, media, business and charity work, with a short time in education thrown in for good measure.
I love being in the outdoors, especially given the variety of the South West, from the wilds of the moors to the beautiful beaches. Thankfully, my wife and kids love that too!

Rob

Outdoor Education Manager

I manage the outdoor instructor team and love using the outdoors as a teaching space and creating memorable outdoor experiences for young people. I’ve explored almost every corner of Dartmoor and many of the mountainous regions of the UK, either by foot, on a bike, in a canoe and even by horse!

Simon

Estate Manager & Senior Instructor

I am a passionate outdoorsman who established the forest school at Heatree where we run our bushcraft sessions. I’m also responsible for the management of the 80-hectare estate. My family are the proud owners of two guinea pigs, six Indian runner ducks, two quails, three stick insects and a 12-year-old tortoise called Colin.

Naomi

Senior Outdoor Education Instructor

Alongside instructing, I plan and staff the adventure activity programmes, liaise with schools about their residentials and help train new instructors. I am qualified in British Sign Language. I love trail running and in 2023 I completed the Hameldown Hammer; a gruelling half marathon on Dartmoor.

Mykl

Senior Outdoor Education Instructor

Aside from my main role of instructing, I organise all the training throughout the year, including our expedition trips to different parts of the UK. I am qualified in British Sign Language. In my ‘spare’ time I love gardening and am a passionate climber, paddler and mountain biker. I also love camping and taking my family on mini adventures.

Stew

Outdoor Instructor & Grounds Technician

When I’m not instructing activities, I can often be found in the woods with a chainsaw in hand or driving the tractor. Previously I’ve worked as an emergency care assistant for the ambulance service and as a ski guide in the Swiss Alps. I live near the sea and love water sports, especially sailing, kayaking and coasteering.

Anna

Outdoor Education Instructor

Having grown up on the Cornish coast, I have spent every summer season working as an outdoor instructor since I was 14 years old. Alongside this, I have competed across the UK and abroad as part of the England surf kayak team, earning medals along the way. When I’m not instructing, you’ll usually find me out kayaking, walking, baking, curled up with a good book, or, whenever I can, heading home to see my parents’ Golden Retriever.

Jess

Outdoor Education Instructor

I am passionate about helping young people learn and grow through adventure activities. I graduated in 2025 with a BA (Hons) in Outdoor Leadership and enjoy sharing the benefits of the outdoors with others. Alongside my work, I am a keen climber and whitewater paddler, and I am committed to creating positive, meaningful experiences that help people build confidence, resilience, and a connection with the natural environment.

Lydia

Front of House and Bookings Lead

As well as welcoming visitors to the Centre, my role involves managing all the bookings, coordinating the calendar and helping groups prepare for their visit. I moved from Athens to Northamptonshire and then most recently to Devon where I feel that I have now found my happy place on Dartmoor! I have studied philosophy, education and psychology but I have mostly worked as a senior administrator and in bookings. I enjoy the hospitality world because it’s always vibrant, lively and interesting. Outside of work, I love travelling, hiking, photography and learning languages; I’m currently on Danish!

Kate

Finance Officer

Having always worked with figures, I mostly enjoy the stories that appear from the numbers as I work with them. Outside of work I enjoy being part of both church communities that I attend, seeing family and being in nature, particularly woodlands. My grandchildren like me to go on winter walks with them because I always have warm hands!

Anna

Marketing & Fundraising Officer

My background is in graphic design and photography, where I developed a strong eye for visual storytelling. I also enjoy content writing and communication, particularly shaping ideas into clear, engaging messages. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in nature or travelling to the Basque Country in Northern Spain to see family. My travel highlights are hiking the Inca Trail and exploring Iran. I also speak fluent Spanish.

Stella

Finance Administrator

Before working at Heatree I was PA to the Principal of a Theological College. I enjoy growing vegetables in the allotment, sewing, baking and DIY. My home life is very busy with four wonderful children. I used to be a Street Angel with Watford Town Centre Chaplaincy. I love singing!

Sarah

PA to the CEO

My role involves supporting the CEO in all administrative tasks, acting as a point of contact for stakeholders, supporting project work and administering the human resources for the charity. Outside of work, I enjoy walking, gardening, sewing, and being part of my local church. I’ve travelled extensively, including a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway and helping to build a house in Zambia. Now, I’m happy to enjoy the beauty of Devon and I love the view from my office!

Di

Head Housekeeper

Aside from managing a small team of housekeepers, I personally oversee A LOT of laundry for the entire centre, as well as many other tasks. Outside of work, I love helping to run my local food hub and also my online Avon business. I have only ever flown once and that was to do aerobatics in a biplane!

Stew

Food Services Manager

I enjoy seeing everyone being full and happy after a good meal. I used to work in a patisserie for many years and I love creating new, sweet recipes. When I’m not working I’m spending all my time with my family and love taking trips to London. I once used to be able to put my legs behind my head!

Dave

Facilities Manager

Alongside being part of the leadership team, I fix broken stuff, build new stuff and dream up future stuff. I’ve worked in outdoor education centres for many years and across the world, most recently in the Scottish Highlands. I love rock climbing and exploring new places outdoors.

Dan

Maintenance Technician

I spend most of my time helping to maintain the building and fixing things, as well as occasionally helping with groundskeeping and instructing. My Family and I belong to the local parish church where we help with leading worship and children’s groups.

Wes

Outdoor Education Instructor

Through the Venture Beyond gap year scheme I’ve qualified as a climbing wall instructor and walking guide. Outside of work I’m a Civilian Instructor in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets which I’ve been involved with for years. I love playing the piano and helping to lead worship in my local church.

Housekeepers

Our team works behind the scenes to keep the centre safe, spotless, and ready for the next visit. We’re a small group with a big focus: making every guest feel welcome the moment they arrive.

Our Housekeepers are: Di, Anna, Kaye, Phillipa, Lorna, Candy, Olha, Rachel, Hannah, Charlotte and Alex.
